VIDEO GAMES

This Section is devoted to all of Moon Knight's Video Game Appearances. In the last 15 years Moon Knight has made the jump beyond comic books and into the realm of interactive video games. Although some of his appearances are more noteworthy than others, there is no denying that Moon Knight has a future in the digital world. Some of these games allow players to take full control of the Fist of Khonshu, and others only feature him as an unplayable, supporting character. With the exception of the pinball game, which is his own title, all games are listed in decending order of most recently released first.

Marvel Pinball: Vengeance and Virtue

Date: Dec 2011
Company: Zen Studios
Platform: Windows, Xbox Live, Playstation Network

Marvel Pinball is a subset of Pinball FX 2, a digital, interactive pinball framework developed by Zen Studios and launched in 2010. It is a fully functional Digital Pinball environment allowing the creation and recreation of pinball tables. It functions on the principle that customers can obtain DLC Modules that add tables to its internal Library. Essentially, it allows you to download new tables into the game and play them. Zen licensed several Marvel properties and turned them into numerous pinball tables. One particular content pack, titled Vengeance and Virtue was released December 2011. It contained 4 tables: Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Thor, and X-Men. This could arguably be Moon Knight’s first solo video game, as all of the tables are independent of each other within the game. The Moon Knight Table, like all Pinball FX tables, features complex rules and mechanics becoming of a quality Pinball table.

In the upper left of the playfield stands Moon Knight, reacting to the actions of the player. Docked in the upper section is the Moon Copter, which depending on the players skill can fly around the table and bring bonuses such as a multiball. In the upper left is a rotating section that can bring forth some of Moon Knight's deadliest foes such as Bushman and Black Spectre. During certain sections you can even influence battles between Moon Knight and his villains with accurate targeting of the ball. The designers of this table were familiar with Moon Knight Lore and did a fantastic job of incorporating it into a cohesive design. As both a Pinball fan and Moon Knight fan I can say this is the finest examples of Moon Knight in the video game world.

Marvel Mystic Mayhem

Date: June 2025
Company: NetEase Games
Platform: Android, iOS

Marvel Mystic Mayhem was released in the summer of 2025 and was developed by NetEase Games. It’s a free to play game that is targeted at mobile (Android and iOS) devices. Upon release, Mystic Mayhem was met with positive reviews from critics and consumers alike. The games official presentation is "Battle the Lord of Dreams as he invades the minds of iconic heroes and villains, awakening their inner fears to destroy the waking world!"

Mystic Mayhem is a team-nased tactical RPG. You create and control a team of heroes (from a large roster of well over 20 characters) to battle enemies accross subsequent rounds. In between rounds the plot is told through animatics. The gameplay uses a time-to-attack mechanic, and requires you to stragetigally build a team from 4 different classes. Characters earn experience, and battles earn various unlocks such as characters and abilities. Players also earn various in-game purchasing tokens, as the game is based on a monetization model.

Moon Knight is a featured player in this game, and is playable from the very first battle. The plot removes him from the team early on, but he can be saved and once again used in battles. Moon Knight features a rather elaborate looking costume in this game. Not unlike the over-designed suit featured in Rivals, this suit features lots of pointy elements and hyper armour detailing. It also features a considerable amount of gold accents.

The game is enjoyable, but suffers from a lot of the same issues that modern live service games do. The excessive reward stimulation, the numerous ingame currencies, the inescapable tutorials, and hiding most of the game behind unlockables makes it a frustrating affair. The Gameplay is well designed, however, which kept my enjoying it despite the other design elements constantly pushing me back. The Fully voiced cut scenes (Moon Knight is voiced by Erik Braa) are very well made, but the plot is incredibly cliche'd and trope heavy. Its an interesting distraction, if only for a short while.

Marvel Rivals

Date: December 2024
Company: NetEase Games
Platform: Windows, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5

Marvel Rivals was released in late 2024 and was developed by NetEase Games. It’s a free to play game that is cross platform. Upon its release, it was met favorably by both critics and players, with peak player counts estimated at over 40 million players. Rivals is a hero shooter similar to games such as Overwatch and Apex Legends. You play characters with different classes and abilities in PVP, 6v6 matches across 6 different game modes.

The player rosters is ever increasing, with 43 playable characters as of October 2025. One of the characters available on release was Moon Knight. Moon Knight is a Duelist character type, which is an offensive type role intended to secure kills. He has a long ranged Crescent Dart Attack, Double Jump ability, Gliding, as well as a grappling hook. Without purchasing cosmetics, the player is only able to select his default skin/costume, which is based on his more traditional outfit featuring his trademark hood and cape. There are 5 other costumes that can be unlocked or purchased. 3 of them are categorized as “Epic”: One based on his Mr Knight Persona, Another on his Phoenix Night costume, and the Fist of Vengeance skin incorporates golden accents. The final two, designated “Legendary” status are not based on any comic iteration. The first is the Lunar General, which has Chinese elements, and the other which is the Moon Knight Mech incorporates Japanese Mecha elements.

One particularly interesting inclusion in this game is the Midnight Mission. It can be seen in one of the maps featuring lunar and Egyptian decorations outside. This is pictures in one of the screenshots below I found online. Moon Knights personality in the Rivals game differs from both his personality in the comic books and in the MCU Show. He is a bit more talkative, comedic, and has an emphasis on the personality portrayed by fan-made memes online.

The portrayal of Moon Knight in Rivals is definitley based on the Meme culture that has spawned about him. The "Deadpoolization" of many characters to make them easily digestable to people otherwise uninterested is unfortunate. It diminishes the deep and complex characters themselves (as well as ruining deadpools unique traits). Moon Knight has zingers and comedic lines in Rivals that make him considerably different from both the Comic and MCU versions. This isn't a big deal, however, since the game is a multiplayer affair, and not that focused on a plot or overarching narrative. The game is fun to play, however. Within the constraints of the genre, it is a well designed iteration. Moon Knight's mechancis are also designed well enough that there are a considerable amount of people who use him regularly.

Marvel Snap

Date: October 2023
Company: Second Dinner
Platform: Windows, Android, iOS

Marvel SNAP was released in October of 2023 and was developed by Second Dinner. It’s a free to play game that was initially released for mobile (Android and iOS) devices, but got a full Windows a month later. Marvel SNAP is a digital collectible card game with lane battler style card game mechanics. It is a multiplayer based game that is free to play and is based on a monetization model. Marvel SNAP has had an overwhelmingly positive reception since release, earning multiple Mobile Game of the Year Awards (The Game Awards, DICE, and New York Game Awards), as well as many other prestigious nominations.

In the game, players have a deck of 12 cards that can be customized. Cards depict Marvel characters with various specifications: cost, power level, and a special ability. Accross 6 rounds players play one or more cards face down. Which cards and their location is determined based on player choice and variables in the game. Various game factors are randomly assigned for each match, and revealed one by one in the first three turns. Whoever has the highest power at each location wins that location. Players must win 2 out of 3 of the locations to win the game. New cards, characters, variants, and powerups can be unlocked using in game tokens/currency. Players also earn various in-game purchasing tokens, as the game is based on a monetization model. There are over 1000 variants of cards in the game, which are cosmetically different, but functionally identical.

Moon Knight is a featured character in the game, and released as part of series 3, but must be unlocked. Moon Knight has a 3 cost, and 3 power rating. His special ability is: "On Reveal: Discard an even-costed card from each player's hand" There are at least 23 variants of Moon Knight in SNAP. Khonshu is also featured in SNAP.

The game is well made and easy to get into. It suffers from the same issues most modern service games do. Excessive reward stimulation, the numerous ingame currencies, the inescapable tutorials, are annoying. However, unlike in other games, having cards as unlockables makes sense due to it being based on a Collectible card game. That is the nature of the hobby. I had a small amount of fun with this game, but the issue is not with the game itself, but rather that I personally do not enjoy collectible card games. Its not a genre that appeals to me. But it is quite apparent that it is made quite well for fans of the genre.

Marvel Future Fight

Date: April 2015
Company: Netmarble Games
Platform: Android, iOS

Marvel Future Fight by Netmarble games is a RPG strategy game for mobile devices. It is based heavily on the use and management of character stats and abilities. Although you only control one character at a time, you manage a team that can include any of the 187 playable characters within the game. Many of these characters must be unlocked, including Moon Knight. Characters can be leveled within three teirs which grant them special abilities and attacks. Some of these abilities are based on their chosen costume, of which Moon Knight has 2.

This is a particularly stat and number based dungeon crawler type game, and is less arcade action then almost every other game in this list. As such, it won't appeal to everyone.

Marvel Contest of Champions

Date: Dec 2014
Company: Kabam
Platform: Android, iOS

Contest of Champions is a fighting game based off of the famed comic book mini-series. It is a fast paced game with limited controls due to the touch interface of smart phones. It, however, features complex resource and team management aspects. It also has pay-to-play features allowing players to purchase in game currency used for unlockables and customization. Only a few characters are immediately playable, with all of the others requiring some level or acheivement to unlock.

Moon Knight is an playable character in this game, but must be unlocked. Unlocking is based on a roulette style mechanism leaving a considerable amount of it to chance. In this game he features his 2014 Declan Shalvey era costume. He appears relatively muscular, and the black part of his costume has a textured cokmponent to it. He also uses his staff as his primary means of attack. I think this is one of the more visually effective executions of Moon Knight in video games to date. Although it is listed as being a single player game, there is no telling if it will become unplayable if the servers ever go down.

Marvel Puzzle Quest is a marvel themed rendition of a bejeweled-type puzzle game that involves defeating opponents. Specific combinations allow players to gain diferent levels of points. The best combinations win, and allow a player to continue to the next level. There is a plot within the game, but it isn't particularly important considering the puzzle type nature of the game.

Moon Knight is a "playable character" in the sense that he is unlockable, but you don't really control him. You complete the puzzle which gives him power to fight. He is wearing the 2014 Declan Shalvey era costume.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Date: Oct 2008
Company: Shaba, Treyarch, and Activision
Platform: Windows, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is an action adventure game which focuses on brawling and exploration in a sandbox recreation of New York City. It follows a plot in which New York becomes infested with Symbiot offspring. With the help of several allies, players must defeat numerous villains in an attempt to save the city. The player takes control of Spider-Man for the entirety of the game. Other heroes, such as Moon Knight and Wolverine can be called in to aid you after you unlock them during the regular progression of the game.

This game is unique in that it supports a rather radical Moon Knight redesign. His cape and costume are tattered and torn, and his boots are more of an extension of his suit, as opposed to independent items. His arm bands feature crescent blades facing towards his hands. In this game you can visit him at Spectorcorp tower where he will be waiting near his moon copter. During the credits concept art of Moon Knight infected by a symbiot is shown. This event does not occur in the released game, and may have been cut from the final release. Moon Knight does not appear in the PS2 or DS versions of the game.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Date: Oct 2006
Company: Raven Software and Activision
Platform: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PC (Via Fan Patch), (PS2 and Xbox Via Glitch)

Raven software changed the way comic fans viewed video games when they released Marvel Ultimate Alliance in 2006. Including over 100 Marvel characters, over 30 of which are playable, Ultimate Alliance was a gift to fans from fans. The game revolved around taking control of 4 Marvel Heroes and defeating the a plethora of villains across numerous memorable locals. The gameplay is a blend of action and RPG forcing players to tactfully enhance their characters abilities as they traverse the digital Marvel world. The roster includes all the expected heavy hitters such as Spider-Man and Wolverine, as well as some lesser known characters such as Moon Knight and Black Panther. Moon Knight has many abilities within the game including throwing Crescent Darts, and using his staff. He also has 3 different unlockable costumes, each with their own unique perks. These custumes include the Classic costume (white), the Khonshu costume (gold accents), and the Ultimate Costume. There is also evidence of a 4th costume (black), but it might just be a fan made modification.

Moon Knight, along with several others was intended to be an exclusive to the Next Gen platforms of the time. However, the character data still exists in the other versions. A fan made patch brings Moon Knight (and other characters) into the PC version. An in-game glitch can make it possible to play as Moon Knight on the original Xbox and PS2 versions as well. In the 360, PS3, and Wii versions, Moon Knight is playable right from the beginning of the game. His powers aren’t quite as strong as others initially, but with adequate leveling he can be a formidable character.

Its kid-friendly design is aimed at simplicity and fun. The game consists of multiple mini worlds in which the character can travel freely between. Marvel: Avengers Alliance

Date Released: March 2012
Date Shut Down: September 30, 2016
Company: Playdom
Platform: Windows, iOS, Android

Marvel: Avengers Alliance is a turn-based, social networking game. It initially started as a free-to-play Facebook App, but has since been released as a stand-alone title on iOS and Android Devices. Avengers Alliance is a very stat heavy game that allows players to control 3 characters in a stream of turn based battles against a multitude of enemies. The plot progression in the game is based on the concept of Seasons. There are currently 2 seasons, each of which has its own particular plot line. Avengers Alliance won Best social game of the year from G4TV in 2012.

Moon Knight is one of the playable characters in the game, and can be acquired after completing certain requirements. His particular gameplay style is based on 'personas'. He gains different abilities based on the persona he takes on during a turn in the game. Three of these personas include Captain America, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. In this respect, his particular representation in this game is likely based off of Bendis' run on Moon Knight, which also was released in 2012.

Avengers Academy is one of the more unique games to feature Moon Knight. It is a freemium game released for mobile devices and has no relation to either the MCU or the Avengers Academy comic series. The purpose of this game is to build a Campus, and to fill it with Superheroes. The heroes were reimagined in this game to be college students that you help to develop their powers. His second-tier costume is closer to the Mr. Knight costume seen in the comics, except he is not wearing a jacket, and his mask is pulled up above his mouth. His third-tier costume is essentially his classic white costume.
